Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF)

About

The UK government is providing this grant to take on industrial and societal problems. It sets challenges which align with the ‘four grand challenges’ named in the Industrial Strategy. These are:

  1. Artificial Intelligence and data: the aim is to use AI and machine learning (both in their own industries and in different sectors) to create jobs and drive economic growth.
  2. Ageing society: the aim is to improve health care by innovating technologies and systems, to add five years (or more) to each person’s life.
  3. Clean growth: the aim is to pioneer the development, manufacture and use of low carbon technologies, systems and services that cost less than high carbon alternatives
  4. Future of mobility: the aim is to improve customers’ travel experience and drive efficiency, while reducing carbon emissions and congestion.

New challenges and funding opportunities are announced intermittently. Examples include:

  • ISCF smart sustainable plastic packaging
  • ISCF TFP science and technology into practice:
  • ISCF transforming foundation industries
